How do I read my contact lens prescription?
Your prescription contains all the details about your corrections. This will allow you to order your contact lenses online.
Here are some guidelines to help you fill in your corrections and order your contact lenses:
- Brand or name of your lenses.
- BC or radius (from 8.0 to 10.0): this is the radius of curvature of the lens.
- DIA or diameter (from 13.0 to 15.0): this is the diameter of the lens.
- OD (oculus dexter, meaning right eye) or OS (oculus sinister, meaning left eye).
- SPH: sphere of correction, power or dioptre (from -20.00 to +20.00).
When the power is negative (-), the sphere corrects myopia.
When the power is positive (+), the sphere corrects hyperopia.
Some toric or custom-made lenses may have additional properties: - CYL: cylinder of the lens (in dioptres): the cylinder corrects an astigmatism.
- Axis: axis of the lens (from 0° to 180°): the axis corrects an astigmatism.
- ADD: addition (in dioptres): the addition corrects presbyopia.
