Can anyone wear contact lenses?

An optician can fit contact lenses for virtually everyone. Whether they are chosen to correct vision or for aesthetic reasons, contact lenses have evolved over time to a very high level of technology. Why should I wear contact lenses?

Contact lenses are an alternative or complement to your glasses. They offer better visual comfort during sport or daily activities, without altering your physical appearance. In addition, you can combine them with any type of sunglasses!

How do you choose the right contact lenses?

Contact lenses can be used to correct various types of visual disorders, such as myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, or astigmatism. These types of corrections are available as daily or monthly contact lenses. You also have the possibility to choose coloured contact lenses for aesthetic reasons. How do contact lenses work?

Contact lenses are thin, spherical, transparent membranes that are placed directly on the cornea. They correct various visual disorders such as myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, or even astigmatism. Thanks to its shape and flexibility, the lens adapts perfectly to the cornea, it adheres to the eye through tears, and it remains in place throughout the day.

Is it comfortable to wear contact lenses?

Yes, contact lenses are a comfortable optical solution that is also advantageous for aesthetic reasons. After an eye examination with your optician, you will be offered the type of contact lenses that corresponds to your optical correction and your lifestyle.

What material are contact lenses made of?

This depends on the type of contact lenses. They can be made from hydrogels (hydrophilic polymers) or the newer silicone hydrogel to allow a large amount of oxygen to pass through the lens.

How do I insert and remove my contact lenses?

• The first step is to wash your hands well before touching your contact lenses.

• Place the lens on your index finger, with the curved part on your finger.

• Use your middle or ring finger of the same hand to pull your lower eyelid down slightly.

• Your other hand should hold the upper eyelid open firmly. Then place the lens on the coloured part of your eye.

• Once you have positioned the contact lens, release your fingers, look down and close your eye gently.

How long can I leave my contact lenses in?

Contact lenses may be worn from morning to night, and they should be removed before going to bed at night. The length of time you wear them depends on the chosen type of contact lenses. Daily contact lenses should not be used for more than one day and they must be discarded after use, for example.

Monthly contact lenses are supplied for a month at a time and they need to be removed daily. They should be cleaned carefully according to the instructions provided by your Visilab optician and then stored in a lens case containing cleaning solution.

How often should I have a check-up for my contact lenses?

Your eyesight is constantly changing, so it is advisable to have regular check-ups with a qualified optician, usually once a year. However, do not hesitate to consult your optician at any time if you have any questions.

Are contact lenses safe?

Contact lenses do not pose a particular risk as long as they are used according to the instructions of a Visilab optician and looked after with care. Since your eyes are fragile, it is essential to ensure that your hands are perfectly clean when handling contact lenses. 

Can contact lenses move, fall out or get lost in your eye?

Contact lenses cannot get lost in your eye, but they can move around slightly. However, they are designed to stay in place perfectly. If your contact lenses cause you any particular discomfort, consult your Visilab optician immediately.

Do contact lenses affect the health of my eyes?

Contact lenses are designed to be safe for your eyes. They have been used on a daily basis by a large number of people for decades. They are not associated with any negative effects and the risk of contact lens-related eye damage is low, provided that you carefully follow the instructions of your qualified optician and you ensure that your hands are perfectly clean when handling contact lenses. 

Do contact lenses hurt?

It is not unusual to be worried about putting in contact lenses. This is a natural apprehension shared by most future contact lens wearers. In fact, most people get used to them very quickly.
