Links between health and hearing

According to a recent Obsan bulletin, more than a million people in Switzerland suffer from hearing loss. Having trouble hearing and understanding can affect our whole social and professional life and, more generally, our health.

From a psychological point of view, the frustration, confusion and sometimes incomprehension caused by hearing loss lead the people concerned to reduce their social interactions to avoid finding themselves in embarrassing situations.

From an organic viewpoint, a certain number of disorders, varying in severity, are associated with hearing loss and gradually lead to a deterioration in the quality of life: in particular, a feeling of fatigue following the extra effort required.

What are the consequences for those around us?

Hearing loss also affects those close to you. Conversations and shared activities become more complicated not only for you, but also for the people around you. Studies show that people who actively react to and combat their hearing loss benefit from significant improvements in many areas of their lives.

To maintain good health despite our hearing loss, we have to start by accepting that we hear less well, not adopting an attitude of denial, and not being ashamed of the situation. In fact, most of the time it is the result of a natural process due to ageing and is therefore perfectly normal. Scheduling an appointment with a hearing aid specialist is the first step on the road to better hearing.

Technological advances have made it possible to design high-performance, connected and invisible hearing aids. Thanks to them, we can rediscover a satisfying social and professional life and fruitful interaction with those around us, while protecting ourselves from the harmful consequences of hearing loss on our health.
